Metal stamping essential to most metal fabrication processes. It involves the use of a die to turn a flat metal sheet into whatever shape you happen to need for your project. There are a few different types of metal stamping services Fairlawn Tool, Inc. performs that may be suitable for your application. They are progressive die stamping services, precision metal stamping and sheet metal stamping. Here are the basic differences between these processes.

Sheet metal stamping is a basic metal stamping process that manufacturers use most commonly with simple shapes. A die is pressed into the metal to create the desired shape, and this process is repeated for the length of the run. It is an effective way to generate high volumes of simple parts.

Progressive die stamping allows you to create parts with complex shapes. A conveyor carries the metal, attached to a stock strip, through various ordered stations. At each station, a die performs an operation which shapes the part. Once the metal has been through all the stations, creating the final part shape, the stock strip is cut away.

When you have a high-volume run, progressive die stamping is often an attractive alternative. We reduce handling, errors, time and costs by using ordered stations within the same die. Progressive die stamping is a great way to ensure you’re achieving the most efficient and cost-effective approach to your stamping needs.

Precision metal stamping is a process you will use most often when you are trying to create three-dimensional designs or metal pieces with raised letters or other surface engraving. It involves the use of a mechanical or hydraulic press to engrave dies and forms onto the surface material.

At Fairlawn Tool, Inc., we get to know your needs before work begins. Each of our customers is unique, which is why we go to great lengths to provide truly custom work related to precision metal stamping and other contract manufacturer work.
